Calvary Assembly of God

In 1978 a few families gathered at the home of Keith Pettet to discuss the desire to have a Pentecostal/Charismatic work established in the DeMotte community.

From that meeting Calvary Assembly of God was organized and Gary Ellison was called to serve as the first Pastor. The members first met in a building located on land owned by David Pendergrass.

In 1984 the congregation purchased the old DeMotte Physicians clinic on 10th St. SW Larry Concus served as pastor for four years during this transition period from 1980-84.

Pastor James Clark then became the minister and the church continued to grow despite their cramped quarters. They sold their building to Porter Memorial Hospital and it was turned back into a medical clinic.

The church then held services at DeMotte Elementary for two years until they purchased land in 1989 and constructed their own facilities. The land was bought from John Zoeteman and was located at the corner of U.S. 231 and 700W.

In 1990 their present church and church parsonage were finished and they moved into their new facilities.

Calvary has expanded their ministry to include musical and drama outreaches which has included Heaven's Gates/Hell's Flames. They also present special Easter and Christmas productions.
